Blackhole of Diamonds
Media: Digital
Back- At this time I was really into space and had been seeing a lot of information on black holes. I was really fascinated (and terrified) with the idea of there being an entity that was powerful enough to suck in everything around it into darkness. I utilized this design for the back of the card so it would seem a bit more interactive even if in a 2D space.
Front- In my mind I envisioned darkness in the black hole however if you were to make it to the end (if there could be an end), there would be an eye staring back out of the darkness. I felt it just made it look a little more eerie and that really intrigued me. I used the mandala for the pupil because it symbolizes the universe and from Sanskrit translates to "circle".

Triptych of Blood and Bone
Media: Digital
One of my favorite fantasy novels is, "Children of Blood and Bones" by Tomi Adeyemi. The characters are very well written and I love how the author weaves together traditional customs and fantasy themes. For this piece I utilized a collaging and graphic method to give it a more "out of this world" look.

Boredom
Media: Ink on Poster Board During undergrad I took a figure drawing course that provided skills in understanding human forms and how positioning can effect perspective. This particular model came in once every few weeks, and unlike other models, never seemed particularly happy to be there. His bored emotionless features provided the perfect blank canvas to impose surreal elements. |
Juice!
Media: Acrylic on canvas There really wasn't much thought put into this piece. For this piece I had to select items from a still life materials chest, then sketch and complete a painting within 4hrs. I selected some pipes, an apple, and a mask; and this was the result. Thankfully we were able to add different elements from our imagination; In fact we were told to let our imaginations run wild. The main inspiration I can pinpoint is that I was really thirsty and really enjoy apple juice. I loved how this turned out and contribute it's warm reception to the pressure under which it was created. |
